To Kill A Mold (2005)
Dir/Scr: Imelda Betiong / "To Kill A Mole Suite"
Summary: Lacey's a 14 year-old girl who is obsessed with getting rid of her mole, smack dab on her forehead. Like every teenager, she feels the need to be accepted by her peers, and especially by John, a boy she has a crush on. Lacey's parents believe that the mole, a family legacy, is a way in finding true happiness and love. But Lacey doesn't believe it and so she seeks the advice of Uncle Pete, the only family member who removed his mole.
Tango en Fuego (2004)
Dir.: Kelly Matten / "Tango en Fuego"
Kelly Matten's latest animation is a love story between a dashing shrimp and a self concious blowfish. The two get entangled in an elaborate mating dance, only to be cut short by the hands of a sushi chef who promptly chops them up for dinner.
Dustbunny (2003)
Dir: Kelly Matten / "Dustbunny"
This animation by CalArts student Kelly Matten is about one woman's visit to the attic, which results in a strange and dangerous encounter with its dusty dwellers. It focuses on the animation aspect, therefore it is not colored, and there are no sound effects. For the score, I chose to use an "incomplete" orchestra of a string section.
The Dysfunctionals (2002)
Dir: John Paul Eaton / "The Dysfunctionals"
Animator's Summary - "Four animals (a schizophrenic hippo, a Tourette's Syndrome pig, a narcoleptic ram, and an attention deficit shih-tzu), are locked away in the bowels of the Lassie Ford center for dysfunctional animals, where an experiment gone wrong has given them super powers. This powerful team of super freaks join together to save the city from its numerous disasters. They become the town's saviors, until one of their own betrays them. Now, this team must face their own friend to save the city from complete and utter destruction."
The music is of course cartoony, with big melodramatic moments and following every beat, but I also worked in a few more modern harmonies and styles, such as my obvious allusion to John Adams' "Short Ride in a Fast Machine".
The Misfit Refuge (2002)
Dir: Lauren Montgomery / "The Misfit Refuge"
This student animation by Lauren Montgomery is about a girl, while mourning the loss of her pet goldfish, finds a new outcast to make happy.
Six Shots (2001)
Dir: Max Cusimano / "Six Shots"
Under My Bed (2001)
Dir: Kelly Matten / "Under My Bed"
Under My Bed, an animation by Marymount College student, Kelly Matten, is the story of a little girl who, frightened at first, eventually befriends the monster under her bed, only then to realize she must keep him a secret from mommy.
